Journal Share - Wild and Free Art Journal Page

Welcome to my Art Journal Share video today where I am sharing a video tutorial from the vaults today! It's an older journal spread but one that I am still very much in love with. We put all of this working into our art journals and then only share them once! Well I'm determined to change that for myself!

This page uses a Stencil from Stencilgirl by Suzi Dennis called Spring Flower Vase. Even though this page is about a year old I am still in love with the way that it turned out, it's one of my favorites still even after all this time.

Using lyrics in my Art Journal pages is one of the things I most like to do when creating. They give me a wonder spring board for when I am stuck for ideas. I may hear a snippet of a song when I am out and about or one from a playlist might jump out at me. Once I have the song on my head the only way to get rid of it is to journal it out!

I hope you enjoy the video, it is an older one so it looks a little different from some of my most recent ones. We all have to start somewhere though and I like to think my techniques have come on since then!

For 2017 I decided to create 100 found poems using the novel "Cranford" as my source material. Working with words and phrases from the novel I have made these found poems on envelopes, postcards and all sorts of found ephmera. Using what I have to hand I have created this project in an A5 ring binder journal.

Mixed media collage papers - video tutorial

I'm working with the Clustered Leaves stencil from Stencilgirl to create this collage paper made from a coffee filter of all things! The rounded shape and dense fabric like texture give a gorgeous texture to your finished collage paper. 

This paper is perfect to use in your Art Journal or any other mixed media project that you will be working on. I certainly plan on making a whole bunch up to have on hand for using in my Art.

Journal Share - Not In a Whisper Art Journal Page

Welcome to my Journal Share video today where I am making an abstract "Moon" themed page in my A5 Art Journal. This size is definitley one of my favourites to work in but that doesn't stop me from buying others of course!

I use black gesso in this journal page which has to be one of my favorite supplies to work with. It's so beautifully black, matte and completely opaque. It gives a wonderful "tooth" to the art journal which means that so many mark making tools glide over it so easily. I most certainly took advantage of this by using my Gelli Roll Moonlight pens from Sakura and my most favorite Liquitex paint marker in White.

I stenciled using the Shoreline Stencil from Stencilgirl by Rae Missigman. This is one of my favorite stencils to use, it's just so versatile. I am sure that when Rae designed it it was to represent the waves on the ocean but to me it just screams a pretty cloudscape which is how I have used it here in my art journal.

I've used gold leaf on this journal page and it's a tricky substance to work with but it's definitely worth the patience. I've used it here with the Gilding Paste that comes with it but I have used matt medium and mod podge before I got hold of the paste so don't let that put you off. You simply "paint" the paste (it's really a liquid I have no idea why it's called a paste!) and then leave it to dry until it is shiny and tacky. This, for me, takes about ten to fifteen minutes. Then I used a dry paintbrush to pick up some gold leaf and brush it on. So without further ado the video of how I made this page is below, I hope that you enjoy watching the process!

Jessica Sporn Welcome Summer Blog Hop

Hello everyone and welcome to the Hello Summer blog hop with some of my fellow design team members from Jessica Sporn Designs.

For this project I wanted to make something that would serve me well for the coming summer months. And summer to me means sitting outside whenever I can and enjoying as many barbque dinners as possible. Living in Ireland means that this is not always a possibility so we certainly make the most of it whenever we can!

So I decided to make these fun little tea light holders which will make a lovely addition to the table outside whenever we get to enjoy an evening outside.

To start of with I took the Retro flowers and circles stencil and outlined sections of the design onto my glass tea light holders. I used a very fine permanent marker to do this and just took my time outlining. Because the stencils are very flexible it was quite easy for me to bend them around the outside of the glass holder.

Then I took some gold outlining paint for glass and went over all of the lines I had drawn in black. Take your time here as some of the smaller elements can be tricky! Don't worry if you make a mistake it's quite easy to remove the liner while it is still wet, keep a cotton bud on hand and you'll be fine!

Once the liner has dried completely it's time to paint in the design using your glass paints. I had three colours, red, green and blue. I wanted to keep it quite simple for my design and these colours really pop against the gold outline.

The glass paint is a solvent based paint so you don't want to be using your best paintbrushes for this project. When I was working I painted in all the red spots, then the green then the blue. It really doesn't matter what order you colour them I was more trying to avoid washing my brush as much as possible. It can be tricky to get it cleaned out properly.

Leave your tea lights to dry completly before you use them as the glass paints can take a lot longer to dry than acrylic paints. It can seem dry but still be tacky so best to leave overnight.

You'll have to check your own glass paints instructions to see if you can wash these or not, some will vary. Mine can be washed but only by hand, they are not dishwasher proof. Enjoy them on your next summer BBQ table!
